Hello! I'd like to welcome you to the website of the Theta Chapter of Alpha Omega Epsilon. We are the University of Illinois' only engineering sorority and also the only social and professional sorority on campus. As stated in our Ideals and Objectives we promote friendship, leadership, and professionalism in all our activities; however, in my experience Alpha Omega Epsilon gives much more to all sisters of the sorority.
This past year has been quite a busy one for A.O.E. Last spring we initiated seven new actives, and this past fall we initiated eighteen new actives bringing the total number of sisters to fifty-nine. In addition our officers have planned many events these past two semesters. On the professional side we have co-hosted two women's conferences with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. The women's conferences featured two panels of women engineers - graduate students and women in the workforce, and a presentation on professional dress. Also we have continued with our tradition of hosting professor lunches, which allows the women of A.O.E. to talk with professors in a casual setting. Related to professionalism, we have recently started hosting scholarship workshops that teach the women of A.O.E. the skills necessary to become better students.
On the social side we continue to work with fraternities to host a barn dance, build a homecoming float, and have fun exchanges that include laser tag, murder mystery dinners, dance lessons, football block, and pumpkin carving. As a sorority we have a semi-formal dance near the end of the fall semester, which compliments our Founder's Day Formal that we celebrate each spring.
Finally, we have sisterhood events that encourage the women of A.O.E. to build bonds that will last a lifetime. Movie nights, spa nights, visits to Curtis Orchards, and potluck dinners are all fun ways that we learn about each other and become better sisters. Outside of planned events many of us study together and eventually most of us become roommates due to the strong friendships we forge.
I am looking forward to serving the women of Alpha Omega Epsilon for the next two semesters. I only hope that I can give a little back to the women who have filled my life with friendships and unforgettable memories.
